Every Monday, Blind Melons hosts one of the most entertaining open mic nights in town. From acoustic singer-songwriters, rock and reggae bands, stand-up comedy and spoken word, anything goes. A laid-back setting, friendly vibes, and high quality sound. House drum kit and guitar amps make the stage user-friendly for bands and impromptu collaborations. As one of the most prominent acoustic venues in town, Lestats is famous for hosting big talent in an intimate space. On Monday evenings, the open mic is popular among the most established local musicians, with a pool of solid performers each week. Sign up is held by raffle at 6:30 pm sharp. Don't be discouraged if your name isn't drawn- they'll be sure to get you in next week, and the talent is worth sticking around until your next appearance. Sign up at 6:30pm, music from 7pm-11.

Located in the heart of Pacific Beach, Longboard is about as so-cal as it gets. If you want to play for a big crowd, this is the venue for you. If you want that crowd to pay close attention, it may not be….but wining over the audience is part of the fun. Every Tuesday, sign up at 8:00pm; music from 9pm-close.

A great place to meet quality musicians in a laid-back atmosphere. Efficiently run even on the busiest nights, host Tim Mudd gives everyone a fair chance at the stage, and keeps the entertainment at a constant flow all evening long. Wednesday evenings. Sign up for a slot between 6:30 and 8, or put your name in the drawing for a set between 8:30 and 10pm.

At this unpretentious coffee shop in the College area, the people are just as warm as the chai lattes. The laid-back atmosphere invites genuine audience response, and the vibe is all-around supportive. Tuesday nights, sign up at 7pm, music starts at 8. First come, first serve.
